Details:
The Hillman Imp is a distinctive British compact car produced by Hillman between 1963 and 1976. Developed as a modern competitor in the small-car market, the Imp was designed to combine practicality, innovative engineering, and stylish appeal, offering an alternative to the more conventional superminis of the era.
The Hillman Imp featured a rear-mounted 875cc or 998cc all-aluminium engine, paired with a four-speed manual gearbox and independent suspension, giving it agile handling and excellent road manners. Its compact, two-door saloon design provided surprising interior space, while the estate variant, known as the Imp Estate, added versatility for families. The Imp also gained a reputation in motorsport, with rally versions achieving notable successes thanks to its lightweight construction and nimble performance.
For model collectors, the Hillman Imp is a highly desirable subject due to its iconic 1960s design, engineering innovation, and cultural significance. Its compact proportions, rear-engine layout, and variety of trims and special editions make it ideal for die-cast and scale models. Collectors value the Imp for its unique character, motorsport heritage, and nostalgic appeal, making it a standout addition to any collection of classic British cars.
