Rainbow Railways is one of the UK's largest independent model railway retailers, based in Linlithgow, West Lothian, Scotland. Operating from our dedicated shop and workshop at Unit 24, Little Mill Business Park, Linlithgow Bridge, EH49 7DA, we serve customers across the UK and internationally through our physical store and online shop at rainbowrailways.co.uk.
We are more than a model railway shop. Rainbow Railways operates across four distinct areas: retail, DCC and sound fitting, livery projects and custom finishing, and pre-owned stock.
We stock one of the broadest ranges of model railway products available from any UK independent retailer. Our catalogue covers all major British outline manufacturers including Hornby, Bachmann, Graham Farish, Accurascale, Dapol, Heljan, Cavalex, Revolution Trains, Rapido Trains UK, EFE Rail, Realtrack Models, Kato, Oxford Rail, and many more. We cover every major scale and gauge including OO, N, O, TT, OO9, and narrow gauge.
We are also one of the few UK retailers with a comprehensive continental European range, stocking Märklin, Roco, Fleischmann, Faller, Trix, Noch, Piko, Viessmann, Arnold, and other leading European brands — making us a go-to destination for continental modellers in the UK.
Our workshop offers professional Digital Command Control (DCC) decoder installation and high quality sound fitting services. Whether you want a basic DCC conversion or a fully sound-fitted locomotive with a custom speaker installation, our experienced team can help. We work across all major decoder brands including ESU LokPilot and others.
We produce custom livery models — taking base ready-to-run models and applying prototypically accurate paint schemes and liveries that the mainstream manufacturers have not yet produced commercially. These Rainbow Railways exclusive editions are available in limited quantities and represent unique models unavailable anywhere else. Recent projects have included reworked Bachmann Class 37s, Cavalex Class 56s, Revolution Trains exclusives, and graffiti wagon ranges in both OO and N gauge.
We buy and sell pre-owned model railway items, with stock arriving regularly. Our pre-owned section covers locomotives, rolling stock, and accessories across multiple gauges.

We commission and produce our own exclusive model railway editions in partnership with leading manufacturers. These cover liveries and variants not available in the standard manufacturer ranges, and are produced in limited numbers. Current and recent exclusives include graffiti wagon ranges in OO and N gauge, reworked Bachmann Class 37 liveries, reworked Cavalex Class 56 liveries, and Revolution Trains exclusive editions. Once sold, these models are not reproduced.
Our shop is open Tuesday to Saturday, 10:00 to 16:00, at Unit 24, Little Mill Business Park, Linlithgow Bridge, EH49 7DA. We offer ample parking and welcome visitors from across Scotland and beyond. Our knowledgeable staff are passionate modellers themselves and are happy to advise on purchases, layouts, DCC installations, or any aspect of the hobby.
