History
Edward Thompson succeeded Gresley as the LNER’s CME in 1941, but his plans for a new series of standard locomotives were frustrated by WWII. Instead, he tested some of his ideas by rebuilding Gresley’s ‘P2’ 2-8-2s as ‘Pacifics’, which became ‘A2/2s’. Eventually, he was authorised to build 30 new 4-6-2s in 1945. Only one, No. 500, was completed before Thompson retired in 1946 and was named in his honour. A further 14 ‘A2/3s’ were completed in 1947, but the rest were built to an improved design by his successor Arthur Peppercorn and became ‘A2s’. As BR No. 60500, the locomotive was retired in June 1963."""

What fantastic customer service from Mark and the team at Rainbow! My online request was quite involved, but nothing was too much trouble and they were able to supply just what I wanted. Definitely the place to go if personal, human interaction is how you prefer to shop!

Rainbow Railways is on my list for the shop that has the items I can’t get down south . So I do browse every now and again . Staff have been very helpful in the past with an order where I had to swap out a container for a similar one . That’s good service as I was notified back then before sending , this allowed me to pick one I recall - simple and job done for the container order . Now today fits the bill for finding the popular wagon , plus a couple more , had one in stock which sold out in my local region . I’ve also found on this site others in the past at great deals too . Can’t complain excellent service.

Very well priced, quick to dispatch and that's backed up by knowledgeable and service-focused people. When I had a small problem with one of my models (not their fault, rare manufacturer issue) they went above and beyond to get it sorted. Definitely one of the local model railway shops we should be supporting, both in person and online. Recommended without hesitation.

Great model rail shop, close enough to be my ‘local’! Great range and can customise models, allows click and collect so ideal to pick up - and be enticed by other items 😁!
