History
First introduced in 1872, by the London, Brighton & South Coast Railway, by 1880, 50 of these ‘A1’ Class 0-6-0T locomotives were built at Brighton Locomotive Works to the design of William Stroudley. This one started out numbered 43 and named ‘Gipsyhill’ on 15 June 1877 and was subsequently renumbered 643 by the LB&SCR. It went on to be rebuilt to ‘A1X’ in 1919, but was sold by the Southern Railway for £785 to the Weston, Clevedon & Portishead Light Railway in December 1925, famously entering GWR stock in 1940. It passed into nationalisation but was withdrawn in January 1950 and scrapped at Swindon in March 1954."""

What fantastic customer service from Mark and the team at Rainbow! My online request was quite involved, but nothing was too much trouble and they were able to supply just what I wanted. Definitely the place to go if personal, human interaction is how you prefer to shop!

Rainbow Railways is on my list for the shop that has the items I can’t get down south . So I do browse every now and again . Staff have been very helpful in the past with an order where I had to swap out a container for a similar one . That’s good service as I was notified back then before sending , this allowed me to pick one I recall - simple and job done for the container order . Now today fits the bill for finding the popular wagon , plus a couple more , had one in stock which sold out in my local region . I’ve also found on this site others in the past at great deals too . Can’t complain excellent service.

Superb well stocked model railway shop. Excellent knowledge base with a fine service to match. Ordering online or by phone makes the purchase of any stock item or new pre-order item very easy. Fitting service available for decoders and speakers etc from various suppliers. Highly recommended with excellent staff and every visit is enjoyable and fun, as it should be.

Very well priced, quick to dispatch and that's backed up by knowledgeable and service-focused people. When I had a small problem with one of my models (not their fault, rare manufacturer issue) they went above and beyond to get it sorted. Definitely one of the local model railway shops we should be supporting, both in person and online. Recommended without hesitation.

Great model rail shop, close enough to be my ‘local’! Great range and can customise models, allows click and collect so ideal to pick up - and be enticed by other items 😁!
