Description
The Brush Type 4, better known as the Class 47, joins the Hornby TT:120 diesel fleet as an all-new model, researched and designed over several years. Its comprehensive tooling suite covers the many sub-classes and detail differences, from as-built 1960s BR green locomotives to those still at work today, and each model is offered DCC Ready or DCC Sound fitted.
Built under the BR Modernisation Plan to sweep steam from the network, 512 Class 47s were produced by Brush at Loughborough and at BR Crewe Works between 1962 and 1968, and were known as 'Brush 4s' before TOPS.
Completed at Loughborough in October 1963 as D1683, this locomotive went new to Old Oak Common but within a year had moved to Oxley, spending the rest of its career in the West Midlands. Repainted blue in 1971 and converted to electric train heating in 1973, it became 47485 under TOPS that December and worked passenger and freight turns until withdrawal in October 1993. It was cut up at Crewe four years later.
