Description
The Brush Type 4, better known as the Class 47, joins the Hornby TT:120 diesel fleet as an all-new model, researched and designed over several years. Its comprehensive tooling suite covers the many sub-classes and detail differences, from as-built 1960s BR green locomotives to those still at work today, and each model is offered DCC Ready or DCC Sound fitted.
Built under the BR Modernisation Plan to sweep steam from the network, 512 Class 47s were produced by Brush at Loughborough and at BR Crewe Works between 1962 and 1968, and were known as 'Brush 4s' before TOPS.
Built at Crewe, D1653 entered service at Cardiff Canton in January 1965 and became 47069 under TOPS. Fitted with electric train heating in 1986 as 47638, it gained extended-range fuel tanks in 1989 and the number 47845. After privatisation it worked Virgin CrossCountry services until the Voyagers arrived, and in 2002 it was rebuilt as Class 57 No. 57301 – its fifth number.
