Description
Peckett and Sons of Bristol built only two of their standard gauge '1287' class 0-4-0 tank engines. No. 1631, the second and last, left Atlas Works in 1923 for Constable's limestone quarries at Matlock. Over the next twenty years she moved north to Ballochmyle Quarry in Dumfriesshire, narrowly escaped the scrapman at Troon, and in 1943 settled at the Manchester Oxide Co. works near Pendleton. Under later owners Hardman & Holden she was named Marcia, after the managing director's wife, and worked the site for twenty years.
In 1963 Hardman & Holden donated Marcia to the newly formed Kent and East Sussex Railway, where she became No. 12 and carried K&ESR blue and later apple green. Long-time member Dick Beckett bought her personally in 1965 and cared for her for over half a century; in 1981 she became the first locomotive in preservation to work from Rolvenden to Bodiam. After Dick's death, Rapido Trains UK and its Managing Director Andy Hardy jointly bought Marcia in 2024, keeping her at home on the K&ESR, where she is being returned to her original Peckett livery.
Rapido's OO gauge model of their own locomotive is one of the smallest ready-to-run industrial steam locos ever produced, with a diecast metal chassis, running boards and boiler and injection-moulded cab and tanks. The range includes many tooling variations to match each version, including different tanks, boilers, whistles, cab backs, buffers and lubricators, plus era-specific details such as an interior bunker, vac pipes and front steps on certain versions.
This version: Works No. 1631 of 1923 in a 'what-if' LNWR-style lined black.
