Description
The Midland Railway built its goods traffic around large fleets of inside-cylinder 0-6-0 tender engines, and the Class M was a classic example of the type - a simple, robust design with a small boiler, slender chimney and the elegant curves typical of Midland locomotives of the period.
Beyond the Midland itself, the type was shared with the jointly-owned lines in which the Midland had an interest, running on the Somerset & Dorset Joint Railway in blue and black, and on the Midland & Great Northern Joint Railway in its distinctive brown liveries. Survivors passed to the LMS at the Grouping, while the M&GN engines were absorbed into LNER stock in the 1930s and renumbered with an 0 prefix.
Rapido Trains' brand-new OO gauge tooling of the Midland Class M 0-6-0 is a finely detailed model produced to Rapido's usual high standard, with livery and detail variations to suit each era and operator.
