Description
The Class 313 was the first of British Rail's second-generation EMUs, built by BREL York from 1976 as part of the PEP (Prototype Electro-Pneumatic) family that also produced Classes 314, 315, 507 and 508. Introduced on Great Northern suburban services out of King's Cross and Moorgate, the 313s brought power-operated sliding doors and Tightlock couplers, and were the first British units able to draw current from both overhead wires and third rail - essential for the tunnels into Moorgate.
Over almost five decades the class carried a long run of liveries for British Rail, Network SouthEast, Silverlink, London Overground, First Capital Connect, Great Northern and finally Southern, whose Coastway units around Brighton were the last in passenger service when the class bowed out in 2023.
Revolution Trains' all-new N gauge (1:148) Class 313 captures the PEP family's distinctive flat-fronted look in fine detail, with a low-profile motor hidden in the centre car and power and control carried through the close couplings, so all wheels pick up and a single decoder runs the whole unit.
