The X37 “Swift” service, linking Glasgow and Falkirk, has become a familiar and well-regarded feature of public transport across central Scotland. Operated by McGill’s Bluebird, the route provides a fast, modern express connection between two major urban centres.

Branded under McGill’s striking Swift identity, the X37 is typically worked by Alexander Dennis Enviro400 double-deckers finished in the distinctive Bluebird blue livery. These buses represent the modern face of inter-urban travel, combining high capacity, contemporary design and strong visual presence — making them instantly recognisable on the road.

For Rainbow Railways, the X37 has a particularly close and personal connection. Our retail facilities in Linlithgow sit just moments from the route by jumping on the teh X38 service to Edinburgh.

Cavalex are pleased to report that the Class 47 project has been progressing nicely in the
tooling stage to a point where we can release the price of the loco without
changing it further into the project - with the DCC Ready RRP price being set at £209.95.
The price of the DCC sound fitted versions will be £309.95.
Following the past few months of hard work to get to the project to this stage in the process,
we are very excited to receive the first shots out of the moulds and will provide a full update
on the project once these have been received in the coming months.
We would like to thank all of our customers and followers for their overwhelmingly positive
reaction to the project so far. The Class 47 has been CAVALEX's largest challenge yet, with
numerous bespoke tooling variations to consider across the range of the Class - we cannot
wait to share further updates in due course!

We’ve recently been busy adding four fantastic new Direct Rail Services (DRS) Bachmann Class 66 locomotives to our range: 66421, 66431, 66428, and 66429.

These highly detailed models celebrate the iconic six-axle diesel electrics that have been the backbone of UK freight operations since their introduction in the late 1990s, faithfully reproduced in the latest DRS liveries. 66428 carries the Carlisle Eden Mind nameplate, and 66429 Charlie Birse represents another beloved example of the class. 66431, carrying the Kingmoor TMD namplate and 66421 Gresty Bridge TMD completes this quartet of DRS models, offering enthusiasts a great variety of prototype examples to add to their layouts. All are available to order today bringing these powerful machines to your collection.

Why the Class 314 is special

• Prototype heritage
  The Class 314 units were built by British Rail Engineering Limited (BREL) at their York Works in 1979, as a three-car AC-overhead design, following on from the dual-voltage Class 313 family.
  They served the Glasgow area – notably the Argyle Line and other North Clyde routes – until their withdrawal in December 2019.
• Modelling significance
  The new tooling by EFE is the first time the PEP-family EMUs (classes 313 / 314) have been made ready-to-run in OO gauge.
  It boasts numerous details: precision-moulded bodyshells, separate detailing parts, complex underframe pipework, a diecast metal chassis in the centre car, coreless motors, a pantograph that can be raised manually (for the Class 314), a Plux22 DCC socket and pre-fitted speaker, and directional lighting, interior illumination and more.
• Available liveries
  For the Class 314 specifically, we’re looking at liveries like:
  • Strathclyde PTA Carmine & Cream (314201)
  • BR Strathclyde PTE Orange & Black (314202)

Rainbow Railways is proud to share the latest announcement from EFE Road, celebrating one of Scotland’s most iconic bus designs — the Alexander Y-Type.
Four new 1:76 scale die-cast models join the EFE Road collection, paying tribute to the craftsmanship that made Falkirk a byword for quality coachbuilding.

A Scottish Classic Reborn

Built by Walter Alexander & Co. (Coachbuilders) Ltd in Falkirk, the original Y-Type buses debuted in 1961, entering full production in 1963.
Over two decades, more than 3,200 examples were produced — the vast majority for the Scottish Bus Group and its associated companies.
Known for their robust construction and adaptable design, these vehicles became a familiar sight across Scotland and beyond.

Their versatile bodywork could be mounted on multiple chassis, including the Leyland Leopard, AEC Reliance, Seddon Pennine 7, and Ford R series, with varied entrance and seating options to suit every operator’s needs.
The Y-Type’s design evolved over time, leading to the AY and AYS variants of 1971, featuring new front-end styling and lighter alloy construction.
Production concluded in 1983 with the arrival of the P-Type, though many Y-Types continued in service well into the 2000s.

The New EFE Road Models

Each of the four new releases features the updated AY-Type tooling, enhanced with fine details such as mirrors, opaque roof vents, and operator-specific door configurations.

E39102 – Strathtay Scottish SCS360M | Service 15 St Fillans

Fleet no. SL 12 (SCS360M), an AY-Type Leyland Leopard built 1975.
Originally part of a batch of 43 dual-purpose coaches for Western SMT, later operated by Strathtay Scottish on Service 15 to St Fillans, Perthshire.

E39103 – Highland Scottish SCS337M | Service 25 Inverness

Registration SCS337M, AY-Type Leopard built 1974 for Western SMT and later transferred to Highland Scottish as L53.
Depicted circa 1984 on Service 25 to Inverness, featuring 2-leaf doors.

E39104 – PMT (NBC) FEH168J | Service 23 Hanley

AY-Type AEC Reliance 49-seater dual-purpose coach built 1971.
Shown in PMT’s red-and-white NBC livery as vehicle No. 168, operating Service 23 to Hanley (circa 1976).

E39201 – Stevensons of Uttoxeter MFR18P | Service X38 Burton

AY-Type Leyland Leopard with 4-leaf doors, built 1976.
Later operated by Stevensons of Uttoxeter as fleet No. 18, in their classic yellow livery, advertising express routes to Blackpool, North Wales and Skegness.
Depicted on Service X38 to Burton (via Lichfield) in 1984 condition.
